The Adrian Gaspar GypsyCombo consists of, as the name already suggests, mainly Roma’s. Most were born in Vienna, grew up and also live here. The fact that the GypsyCombo’s background is from three different countries, is a plus point, if one sees it from the musical perspective. Apart from Romania, Macedonia and Serbia are also represented here. It is quite obvious that the music that the Combo plays also comes from these countries. The Balkan elements are supported by the Bulgarian rhythms and are emphasized by the jazzy interpretations.
The Adrian Gaspar GypsyCombo was founded in December 2005. In their first year, they attended the Roma Music Contest from the 16th to the 18th of December, under the name “Gypsy Talents” where they were awarded 1st place. After this successful contest, the members of the Combo decided to continue with their project. Under the direction of Adrian Gaspar they performed with the Adrian Gaspar Orchestra during the opening of the Balkan-Fever-Festival on the 21st of April 2006, in the “szene-wien”.
The first official concert of the “Adrian Gaspar GypsyCombo” took place on the 20th of September 2006, at the Ost-Club. The biggest concert of this band to date was at the Akkordeonfestival 07 which took place on the 4th of March in the Künstlerhaus, dieTheater. The lack of performances does not stop the professional approach which the Combo has towards their musical career. The proof for this is shown on the first album of the Adrian Gaspar GypsyCombo, presented with the name “Crastavica”, that will be available for purchase soon.

The Adrian Gaspar Orchestra was founded on the 1st of June 2005 and their first rehearsal took place on the very same day. “Grand Session” was the first piece that the AGO ever played. The piece’s debut took place on the 11th of June 2005, ( !!! a mere 10 days after the orchestra was founded !!! ) at the Künstlerhaus, during the “Multikids 05” event.
On the 26th of June 2005, barely four weeks after the group was established, the first and official Adrian Gaspar Orchestra concert at the popular jazz venue Porgy and Bess took place. After a long summer/winter pause, they appeared at the “Ball des Kulturvereins Österreichischer Roma” in February 2006, where they were then seen/heard by Richard Schuberth, the organizer of the “Balkan Fever”-Festival. It was then arranged that the Orchestra would be the opening act at the upcoming festival and from this point on, the AGO were ready to start their musical career.
On April 21st 2006, they performed at the szene-wien and were the headlining act at tue “Balkan Fever 06“. On the 27th of June 2006, just a year after the establishment of the Orchestra, they went on to perform at the annual “Donauinselfest“, where they stunned their audience with Balkan Jazz tunes.
Their biggest achievement to date was being honoured with the Publikumspreis of the “Austrian World Music Contest” award, which took place at Porgy and Bess, on the 9th of December 2006.
They have also been successful abroad, in Trento and Verona, Italy, where they were able to give a stunning performance both to a young and more mature audience.
Exactly two years after the Orchestra was founded, on the 31st of May 2007, the first album of the Adrian Gaspar Orchestra, which was produced in the ORF Landesstudio Burgenland, was presented and released as “All.can B-Jazz” .
With a new concept, a new Line-up and a new Programme for 2007/2008, Adrian, together with his Orchestra, wants to be more involved in the Jazz-Scene and to devote himself to his work with his role model, Mathias Rüegg, the founder and leader of the Vienna Art Orchestra.

The Adrian Gaspar Trio was founded in September 2007. It is a freshly created project and is mainly based on improvisation. The repertoire consists of well-known Jazz-Standards, as well as self-written and composed pieces. The Trio is quite a challenge for Adrian. In contrast to his position in the Orchestra where he is “merely” the bandleader, demand is much higher as a soloist in the trio.
He deeply appreciates and cherishes his collaboration work with Josephine Ahlers “Fini”, a young singer with a beautiful voice that impresses and inspires her whole audience. A very important role in the trio is played by the well-renowned bass player, Manuel Mayr, who can be found in nearly every cast. The young drummer, Moritz Labschütz, who comes from a family of musicians, is the rhythmic base of the trio and participates at every Jam-Session in Vienna. Together, these young and talented individuals form the Adrian Gaspar Trio. |
