BRUCKMAYR - “A Little Warning From the Pimps”
Descriptions in TV guides. Text messages received from people in discos. Hysterical phone calls as overheard on trains. Waiting in line to get movie tickets, to buy gas, to use a sun bed, to board a plane, to get to the buffet. A soundtrack about, for, and against all of the above, that’s what “A Little Warning From the Pimps”, Didi Bruckmayr’s first solo CD, is all about.
Neat songs about career-ladder-climbing personalities as presented by contemporary personalities. Chic, self-involved, snivelling, ignorant, paranoid, and completely empty inside.
Didi Bruckmayr needs no introduction in Austria, he’s been an important figure in the country’s music scene for many years. As the excessive front man for bands like Fuckhead and Wipeout, he created quite a reputation for provocative and memorable stage shows - a reputation that spans from Moscow to Japan. Besides that, he is a university graduate, an actor at the renowned Burgtheater, a voice-artist, a vocal acrobat, a dancer, a multi-media genius and the owner of incredibly dreamy tattoos. He’s a Droid, he’s a daddy. He’s got immense knowledge when it comes to electronic, punk, and industrial music. He is a slick, sly, radiant, scruffy, and hard-bodied man.
The producer behind “A Little Warning From the Pimps” is the number one dubious boy in the dubious boy’s club which influences Didi Bruckmayr’s every move, Alexander Joechtl. This is the man behind Attwenger’s sound and he’s a sound technician at the Salzburger Festspiele to boot. In his free time, he produces musicians like Bruckmayr and he also runs one of the best mastering studios in Austria.
Yet another dubious boy, Clemens Haipl, took a brief break from his quest to write the perfect pop song with his band Heirstyle, in order to achieve his goal, a couple of times over, on Bruckmayr’s CD.
Yet another collaborator-Gerhard Potuznik is the man behind the Angelika Köhlermann Label and basically an institution in the contemporary Viennese music scene. He’s a solo artist, has been partners in crime with the likes of Chicks on Speed and Bunny Lake and on Bruckmayr’s CD, he wears three hats - producer, writer, and background vocalist.
A very special guest makes an appearance on the CD - Martin Schirenc adds 2 songs to the track list. In case you’re not in tune with the internationally most widely known Austrian metal band Pungent Stench, Martin Schirenc is responsible for the smell.
“A Little Warning from the Pimps” – it is wicked, it is wild. It moves between noise, pop and possibly electro. Defining genres is so over anyways and they never existed for Didi Bruckmayr anyways. Instead, he’s the voice in the back of your head, the music master of the dance floor, and the devil who teases us towards the dark side. Yes.
All that in one person.
The CD has been available in Austria since the 27th of October 2006!!
Germany release: 02.02.2007
