In May 2012 we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Marlene Dietrich:

FILM CONCERT "THE WOMAN ONE LONGS"
For this occasion, Pascal Schumacher in collaboration with the ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin(LU) composed a new soundtrack for the silent movie 'The Woman One Longs', a film of Kurt Bernhardt from 1929 with a brilliant Marlene Dietrich in her first incarnation of the mysterious femme fatale.

A total of 15 musicians will perform the soundtrack live during the screening of the film.
Instrumentation: string quartet, double bass, harp, 2 clarinets, flute/piccolo, horn, tuba, trumpet, vibraphone/glockenspiel, percussion, timpani.

The film concert of 'The Woman One Longs' will be recorded by ARTE and goes in premiere at the Grand Auditorium of the Philharmonie in Luxembourg on 24 May 2012.

The ever enigmatic Marlene Dietrich meets the subtle music of composer and vibraphone player Pascal Schumacher from Luxembourg. Conducted by German conductor and composer Christian Schumann, this project is a challenging and innovative approach to the silent movie "Die Frau, nach der man sich sehnt" (French title: "L'Énigme" // English title: "The Woman One Longs for"), originally produced in 1929.
In this melodrama directed by Kurt Bernhardt and based on the novel by Max Brod, the beautiful but mysterious and haunted woman Stascha (Marlene Dietrich) crosses paths with Henri Leblanc, in his quest for a wealthy bride in order to secure the financial future of his family's company. This fatal meeting ultimately ends in a desperate act of murder.

This film-concert can be experienced with full orchestral accompaniment (recorded with the WDR orchestra, Germany) or in a more intimate setting with a smaller ensemble (premiered by United Instruments of Lucilin, Luxembourg).

The composition by Pascal Schumacher is commissioned by the Philharmonie Luxembourg and supported by the Ministry of culture Luxembourg.
