Nicole Willis has been been performing for the past 20 years with various projects from Repercussions to Cola & Jimmu. Ms Willis also runs a label, Herakles Records and is a amateur blogger.
Now she will be performing with a hand picked line up material from her new sublabel on Herakles Records; Persephone Records, coming out in March 2017, distributed by Kudos. The new material is a collaboration between Nicole Willis, Jimi Tenor & electric bassist, Jonathan Maron. Mr Maron has played with Maxwell, Norah Jones, Dave Douglas, and is a founding member of the Groove Collective. He has been featured numerous times in Bass Player Magazine which call him ‘bass wonder’.
Willis & Tenor produced, mastered and edited the new tracks for old school Disco appeal, the two new singles Big Fantasy (For Me) / Tear It Down, have both dance floor and funk style. Especially of Tear It Down which is decidedly political content of lyric, the act hope to unify people on the dance floor.
The Nicole Willis Band will be Helsinki based musicians with also American based Gordan Clay aka Nappy G. Mr Clay (who is also a founding member of the Groove Collective) on timbales and percussion. both Mr Maron and Mr Clay played with Willis in the 1990’s in New York. Abdissa Assefa, whom has played with Tenor in Itetune also K-X-P, will be playing drum kit. Julius Heikkilä will be playing electric guitar, who also has played in Afrocola and Sound and Fury. Ndioba Gueye will be on electric bass, originally from Senegal, he has also played with Afrocola, Matin Mohammad Farogh and Mbalax group Meissa Niang and The Diambaar Band.
The new singles Big Fantasy (For Me) and Tear It Down hope to satisfy with Pop/Disco music for the long time collaborators Willis & Tenor. They will exclusively be on vinyl and digital release.
Jimi Tenor has released a new album, also on Herakles Records titled Saxentric. Saxentric has a wide ranging international roster including Helgi Svavar Helgason and Tony Allen on drums, however Tenor is playing the majority of the instrumentation on the album. Wire Magazine has said of Saxentric: “a dozen tracks on which he shows Prince-like ability to play and sing everything himself.” Nicole Willis last year released her third collaboration with The Soul Investigators on Timmion Records titled Happiness In Every Style in 2015. As Ms Willis takes on more record label tasks, her productions are leading Herakles/Persephone Records.
